Michigan driver responsibility

What Is Michigan Driver Responsibility

The Secretary of state will identify individuals who entered into a payment plan on or before February 1, 2018, and is eliminating outstanding Driver Responsibility Fees. You may be eligible to reinstate your driver’s license without paying a reinstatement fee on March 31, 2018, through December 31, 2018. If you did not enter into a payment plan on or before February 1, 2018, you are still responsible for making payments until October 1, 2018. At that time, they will waive all Driver Responsibility Fees. The $125 standard reinstatement fee was waived through December 31, 2018. If you renew your license after December 31, the $125 will be due. Additional fees may apply if you have a suspension for reasons other than Driver Responsibility.

Order Michigan Secretary of State Driving Record

Find out what is on your driving record and why you have a license suspension. Get a certified complete driving record from your Secretary of State office, or order it online or by mail or fax. The cost to get it is $12. Be sure to ask for your certified complete record. The information will include dates, locations, and specific offenses. It may also have suspension dates for your license. If you see “FAC Suspension” on your driving record, there is likely a warrant for your arrest. This suspension usually happens after getting a Failure to Appear in court for a misdemeanor for a traffic violation.

How to reinstate your driver’s license if there is a suspension for non-payment of a driver responsibility fee

  • Go to the Secretary of State’s office and file the “Application for Driver’s License Reinstatement.”
  • Reinstatement is free before December 31, 2018.
  • After December 31, 2018, the reinstatement fee is $125.
  • Reinstatement may be delayed if your license is suspended or revoked for other reasons and your license has expired for more than four years.
